The S644D HCS reciprocating saw blade is a solid workhorse for anyone cutting timber, sheet materials or plastic on site. Made from high carbon steel, it handles the kind of day-to-day demolition and rough cutting work that would eat through a lesser blade without much ceremony. At 150mm in length, it sits in the sweet spot for general site use — long enough to get through stud work and boarding, short enough to stay controllable in tighter spots.

High carbon steel performs well at lower temperatures, which matters more than people realise. On a cold morning, a brittle blade is a broken blade. HCS keeps its edge and its flexibility when it counts. The side set and sharpened (SSS) tooth configuration is designed for a fast, medium cut rather than a fine finish — so if you need precision joinery, this is not your blade. If you need to get through a 4×2 quickly without faffing about, it absolutely is.

Where S644D HCS Reciprocating Saw Blades Get Used

These blades are a staple for carpenters, builders and general contractors. Stud partitioning, cutting out door openings, trimming sheet materials, ripping through old timber during strip-outs — this is the territory. They also handle plastic pipe and sheet plastic well, which makes them useful across a broader range of tasks than the name might suggest.

Compatibility With Man-Made Board

Plywood, OSB, MDF, chipboard — the S644D HCS blade cuts through all of them without issue. The HCS construction copes with the glues and resins in manufactured board better than you might expect for a standard carbon steel blade. Not indefinitely, but well enough for a day’s work before you reach for a fresh one from the pack.

Sold in packs of 5, these blades fit all standard reciprocating saws using the universal shank fitting. Keep a pack in the bag and you will rarely find yourself stuck waiting on a delivery mid-job.

Pro Tip: When cutting through old reclaimed timber, slow the stroke rate down slightly rather than forcing the blade through at full speed — you will hit nails and screws that are not visible, and a controlled pace gives you a fraction more time to react before the blade takes a set or snaps.
