These self drilling drywall screws are designed specifically for fixing plasterboard to metal wall and ceiling track systems. The No.2 drill point bores cleanly into steel sections up to 2.0mm thick without the need for pre-drilling, which makes a real difference when you are working through a full run of studs and track. Each screw carries a Fire Classification of A1, making them suitable for use in fire-rated partition and ceiling systems where specification matters.
The bugle head profile is what sets a proper drywall screw apart from a standard countersunk fixing. Rather than cutting aggressively into the board face, the bugle shape bears the load gradually as the head seats, reducing the chance of breaking through the paper facing. Get the depth right and the head sits just below the surface, ready for a thin skim of finish without tearing the board. A flat-headed screw on a plasterboard job is the kind of shortcut that shows up at decoration stage.
Self Drilling Drywall Screws: Sizes and Applications
The range covers ten sizes from 3.5 x 25mm through to 4.8 x 125mm, which means you are covered for everything from lightweight 9.5mm board on a metal ceiling grid to double-layer 15mm board on a heavy-duty partition. The smaller diameters handle standard single-layer boarding on light gauge track. The larger sizes in the 4.8mm diameter range are better suited to fixing through thicker board assemblies or into heavier steel sections where more thread engagement is needed.
All screws in this range use a Phillips No.2 recess. This is the near-universal standard for drywall work and matches the No.2 drywall bit fitted in most screw guns and auto-feed tools. The drive geometry gives a positive engagement without the cam-out issues you get when forcing an incorrect bit into a stripped recess halfway up a scaffold board.
Box Quantities
Box quantities run from 100 up to 1000, so whether you are pricing a small domestic job or ordering for a full commercial fit-out, there is a pack size that keeps your cost per screw sensible. On larger projects, buying in 1000-screw boxes makes a material difference to cost and means fewer trips to the van.
The zinc plating gives adequate corrosion resistance for interior dry-lining work. These self drilling drywall screws are not intended for exterior or wet-area applications, but for everything inside a finished building they will perform reliably over the long term. Zinc-plated fixings also tend to be more sympathetic to drywall bits than case-hardened alternatives, which reduces bit wear across a long shift.
Pro Tip: When using an auto-feed screw gun, set the depth clutch on a scrap piece of board first so the head seats consistently without breaking the paper facing, as under-driven screws will telegraph through finish plaster and over-driven ones weaken the board around the fixing.
