A countersunk solid brass wood screw is one of those things that gets overlooked until you actually need one. Steel screws rust, stainless can be overkill, and for joinery, cabinetry, hardwood fittings or anything that will be seen, brass is simply the right material. It won’t corrode, it won’t stain surrounding timber, and it looks the part when the finish is on. These are traditional slotted countersunk screws in solid brass, not plated, not coated. Solid brass through and through.

The range covers a serious spread of sizes. From compact 1/2″ x 4 for fine work up to a beefy 4″ x 12 for heavier structural joinery applications. That breadth means you’re not hunting around for odd sizes or making do with something close enough. Whether it’s hinge fitting, quadrant beading, cabinet work, heritage restoration, or fixing hardwood thresholds, there’s a size here that actually fits the job.

Where Solid Brass Wood Screws Get Used

In practice these turn up in a lot of places. Period property restoration is an obvious one, where using modern screws would look wrong and potentially cause problems with inspectors on listed buildings. Boat building and marine joinery is another common application, since brass holds up in damp and salt-laden environments where steel would fail quickly. Furniture makers and cabinet fitters use them wherever the screw head will be visible. They’re also popular for fixing antique ironmongery, traditional hinges, escutcheon plates and other period hardware where you just wouldn’t reach for a Torx screw.

Appearance and Corrosion Resistance

One of the practical advantages of solid brass over plated equivalents is durability of finish. A plated screw will eventually corrode through the coating, especially in external or damp conditions. With solid brass, the material is consistent all the way through, so surface marks polish out and there’s no base metal waiting to rust underneath. For exposed decorative fixings, that matters.

Available in boxes of 100 or 200 depending on size, so there’s enough there for a proper job without having to order twice.

Pro Tip: Always pilot drill hardwood before driving brass screws, especially in larger gauges. Brass is softer than steel and the shank will snap cleanly if you force it into dense timber without a clearance hole.
