The Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit is a complete waterproof membrane system for damp walls above and below ground. Includes a 2m x 10m roll of Kontract Mesh, sealing tape, and plugs with seals. Ready to plaster or dot-and-dab straight onto the surface.
The Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit is a complete, ready-to-install damp proofing solution built around Kontract Mesh, a high density polyethylene membrane with 8mm studs that physically isolates the wall surface from moisture. Whether you are dealing with a damp basement, a ground-floor room with persistent penetrating damp, or an older property where rising damp has made the existing plaster unsound, this kit gives you everything needed to get the membrane fixed and a new finish applied without sourcing components separately.
The mesh itself is the key part. Those 8mm studs create a drainage cavity behind the membrane, allowing moisture to travel down and away rather than sitting against the wall and causing ongoing problems. The front face carries a welded HDPE mesh lathing, which means you can apply plaster directly to it or use adhesive dabs to fix plasterboard. No bonding agents, no specialist background coats. The surface is ready to receive a finish once the membrane is fixed.
Where the Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit Gets Used
This kit works on walls above and below ground. Below ground, it is the right choice where walls are damp but not actively running with water. If you have got a basement with walls that are visibly weeping or streaming, Wykamol recommend their Kontract 8 st membrane instead, which is designed to handle that volume. Above ground, the mesh is well suited as a permanent barrier to moisture and salts, including walls affected by rising damp or where previous renders have failed due to salt contamination. It can also be used on floors above ground level in conjunction with a screed.
What Is Included
The kit contains one roll of Kontract Mesh at 2m x 10m, covering 20 square metres. It also includes a 28mm x 2mm sealing tape at 22.5 metres, and 200 fixing plugs with seals. The plugs are designed to fix the membrane to the wall while maintaining the waterproof integrity at each fixing point, which is the part that trips people up if they try to improvise with standard fixings.
Before installing the Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit, remove any loose plaster, salt deposits, or laitance. Treat mould or masonry fungi with a suitable fungicidal solution before the membrane goes on. The wall does not need to be perfect, but sharp protrusions should be removed and any significant unevenness should be d믭 out and allowed to cure fully before you proceed.
Pro Tip: Fix the membrane plugs at the perimeter first and work inward in a consistent grid pattern, keeping the membrane under light tension as you go to avoid wrinkles that can create air pockets behind the lathing surface.
The Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit is used in basement conversions, cellar tanking, and ground-floor damp remediation where walls need to be isolated from moisture before replastering or dry lining. It is a common choice for damp proofing contractors working on older stone or brick properties where the wall construction makes conventional chemical injection less predictable. It is also used in new basement builds where structural moisture is expected during the early life of the building.
Above ground, it works well as a barrier to salt-contaminated walls and as a remedial fix where previous plaster has failed due to ongoing moisture movement. Suitable for application over existing brickwork, render, and painted surfaces where the substrate is sound.
Best For
Basement and cellar damp proofing
Damp walls above and below ground
Salt-contaminated or failed plaster substrates
Ground-floor remedial damp treatment
Walls requiring direct plaster or plasterboard finish
Compatible Surfaces
Brick and blockwork
Stone walls
Existing render
Painted masonry
Concrete substrates
Key Properties
8mm stud height, 5.5 litre/m² drainage volume
Sheet thickness 600 micron, density 0.7 kg/m²
150 kN/m² load bearing capacity
High density polyethylene construction
HDPE mesh lathing welded to front face
Covers 20m² per kit
Suitable for direct plaster or adhesive dab plasterboard
Not suitable for: Not suitable for basement walls with actively running or streaming water, where Wykamol Kontract 8 is the appropriate product. Not intended as a structural waterproofing solution for below-ground floors without use alongside a compatible floor membrane.
Prepare the wall thoroughly before the membrane goes up. Remove loose plaster, crumbling render, salt deposits, and any laitance. Treat visible mould with a fungicidal solution and allow it to dry. Make good any significant irregularities and let any dubbing-out mortar cure to full strength before you start fixing.
Roll out the Kontract Mesh with the studs facing the wall. Fix through the membrane using the supplied plugs with seals, working from the perimeter inward. The sealing plugs maintain the waterproof layer at each fixing point, so do not substitute standard fixings. Apply the sealing tape at all joins and edges to maintain continuity. Once the membrane is fixed, plaster can be applied directly to the mesh face, or plasterboard can be fixed using adhesive dabs in the usual way.
Remove all loose plaster, salt deposits, laitance, and unsound material from the wall surface
Treat any mould or masonry fungi with a suitable fungicidal wall solution and allow to dry fully
Make good any significant surface irregularities with dubbing-out mortar and allow to cure completely before proceeding
Ensure all sharp protrusions are removed and the surface is reasonably level
Roll out the Kontract Mesh with the 8mm studs facing the wall surface
Fix the membrane using the supplied plugs with seals, starting at the perimeter and working inward in a consistent pattern
Apply the included sealing tape at all joins, overlaps, and perimeter edges to maintain a continuous waterproof barrier
Apply plaster directly to the mesh lathing face, or fix plasterboard using adhesive dabs in the standard dot-and-dab method
Can I use the Wykamol Dry Mesh Kit in a basement with water visibly running down the walls?
No. The Dry Mesh Kit is designed for damp walls, not walls with active water ingress or streaming. Where water is visibly running, Wykamol recommend using Kontract 8 membrane on both walls and floors. The Dry Mesh Kit is the right product once active water has been controlled or where dampness is the issue rather than flowing water.
Can I plaster directly onto the Kontract Mesh, or do I need a bonding coat first?
You can plaster directly onto the mesh face without a bonding coat. The HDPE mesh lathing is welded to the front face of the membrane specifically to provide a mechanical key for plaster. Standard plaster finishes can be applied directly, or plasterboard can be fixed using adhesive dabs without any additional preparation to the membrane surface.
Does the kit include enough tape and fixings for the full 20m² roll?
The kit includes 200 fixing plugs with seals and 22.5 metres of sealing tape, which is sized to cover the 20m² membrane roll included. Fixing density will vary depending on wall condition and the finish being applied, so on particularly uneven or difficult walls you may find you need additional plugs. These are available separately if needed.
Kontract Mesh is manufactured from high density polyethylene with an 8mm stud profile and a sheet thickness of 600 microns, giving a density of 0.7 kg/m². The stud configuration creates a drainage cavity with a volume of 5.5 litres per square metre, allowing moisture to dissipate rather than build up against the wall face. Load bearing capacity is rated at 150 kN/m², and the material offers stable performance across a wide temperature range. The welded HDPE mesh lathing on the front face provides a consistent mechanical key for plaster or adhesive application.
