Most sealants make you choose: strength or flexibility, grab or gap-filling. Sika Stixall Ultra doesn’t. It’s a hybrid polymer adhesive and sealant built for tradespeople who need one cartridge to handle a genuinely difficult job, whether that’s perimeter sealing around a window frame, bonding a mirror to plasterboard, or finishing a joint that has to flex for years without cracking. As a hybrid polymer sealant, it sits in a different category to silicone or MS polymer products, combining the chemical resistance of silicone with the paintability and adhesion of polyurethane. Once you gun it on, Stixall Ultra skins over in around thirty minutes and cures at approximately 1.5mm per day, reaching full strength while remaining permanently flexible. The temperature range is wide: -40°C to +100°C, which covers anything you’re likely to encounter in the UK, and quite a bit that you won’t. It resists mould, UV, petrol and most common chemicals, which matters on jobs where a standard sealant would degrade within a season or two.
One thing that catches people off guard with this product is the wet surface capability. It bonds to damp substrates and will even cure in brief underwater conditions, which makes it genuinely useful for emergency repairs or awkward situations where drying everything out first simply isn’t practical. That’s not a common feature, and it earns its place on the spec sheet.

On the compliance side, Stixall Ultra is UKCA and CE marked, carries EN15651 façade and sanitary classifications, and meets EMICODE EC1 Plus low emissions standards. It’s approved for food preparation areas under EN 1186-13:2002, and qualifies for LEED v4 and BREEAM credits where those are required on commercial or sustainability-rated projects. For most day-to-day trade use, those certifications simply mean it’s been properly tested and won’t cause problems on site inspections or snagging lists.
Pro Tip: Apply Stixall Ultra in one continuous bead and tool it off before it skins, usually within fifteen to twenty minutes in normal conditions, as going back to smooth a partially cured bead will tear the surface and leave a rough finish that no amount of wetting will fix.

Not suitable for: Not recommended for bonding polyethylene, polypropylene or PTFE surfaces, as hybrid polymer adhesives do not form a reliable bond to these low-energy plastics. Also not suitable as a structural load-bearing fixing where mechanical fixings are specified.
Cut the nozzle at a 45-degree angle to suit the joint width, fit to a standard 300ml skeleton gun, and apply in a single continuous bead. Keep pressure steady and move at a consistent speed. Don't stop and start mid-joint if you can help it.
Tool the bead off with a wet finger or spatula within fifteen to twenty minutes, before the surface skin forms. Clean any excess from the surrounding area immediately using white spirit or a suitable solvent while it's still uncured. Once cured, it won't budge without a blade.
Cut the cartridge tip at 45 degrees to match the joint width required
Pierce the inner foil seal if present and fit the nozzle securely
Load into a standard 300ml skeleton gun and squeeze the trigger until product reaches the nozzle
Apply in one continuous bead, keeping consistent speed and pressure throughout

Remove excess product from surrounding surfaces straight away using white spirit before it cures

Can Stixall Ultra really bond to wet surfaces?
Yes, it can. Stixall Ultra is formulated to cure on damp substrates and will even handle brief underwater conditions. For best results the surface should be structurally sound and free from grease or loose material, but you don't need to wait for everything to dry out completely before applying.
Is Sika Stixall Ultra the same as standard Stixall?
Not quite. Stixall Ultra is a step up from the original Stixall in terms of chemical resistance, temperature range and certifications. It carries EMICODE EC1 Plus, EN15651 façade and sanitary classifications, and food preparation area approval, which the standard product does not. If the job has compliance requirements, Ultra is the one to reach for.
Can it be painted once cured?
Yes. Unlike silicone, Stixall Ultra accepts paint once fully cured, which is one of the main reasons tradespeople choose hybrid polymer products for interior joinery and reveal work. Allow full cure before painting and use a compatible water or solvent-based topcoat.
What gun does it need?
A standard 300ml skeleton gun. No specialist equipment required. For very frequent use or high-volume application, a ratchet-drive or smooth-barrel professional gun will give better flow control, but any decent 300ml gun will do the job.
