Orange plasterers scrim tape is one of those things you buy without thinking too hard — until you buy a bad roll and spend an afternoon chasing bubbles across a ceiling. The DTS Premium HI-TAC Scrim is made with a finer mesh than standard scrim, which means more adhesive per square metre and a noticeably better bond straight from application. No fussing, no lifting, no blisters halfway through a skim coat.
It is self-adhesive, so it sticks where you put it and stays there. That sounds like it should be guaranteed with any tape, but anyone who has used cheaper scrim knows it is not. When the tape shifts mid-job or starts peeling at the edges before you have even picked up a trowel, you lose time and finish. The HI-TAC formula keeps joints tight and flat, which matters when a thin skim coat is all that is standing between you and a smooth finish.
Why Orange Plasterers Scrim Tape Works Better on Site
The orange colour is not just for looking cheerful on a plasterboard wall. It makes it easy to see exactly where your tape is running, which is useful when you are working quickly across multiple joints. On a busy site with poor lighting, a bit of visibility goes a long way. It is a small detail, but the people who designed this roll clearly spent time thinking about how it actually gets used.
Temperature Performance and Chemical Properties
The tape performs well across a wide range of temperatures, so it is not going to let you down in an unheated property in January or a south-facing extension in July. It is odourless and solvent-free, which is worth noting if you are working in occupied properties or poorly ventilated spaces. Corrosion-resistant fibres mean there is no risk of the mesh degrading behind plaster over time.
Available in 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm widths on 90m rolls, with box quantities to suit both single jobs and ongoing trade use. The wider 100mm width is particularly useful on butt joints or heavier-duty board repairs where a standard tape width leaves less margin for error.
Pro Tip: On butt joints, use the 100mm width and bed it in with the edge of your trowel before skimming over it, this reduces the chance of the tape print telegraphing through the finish coat.
