Soudal Plasterboard Adhesive Foam offers a cleaner, faster alternative to traditional mortar-based dot and dab methods. This gun-grade polyurethane foam bonds plasterboard to masonry, concrete and blockwork with minimal fuss and no mixing. One 750ml canister delivers coverage equivalent to a 20kg bag of adhesive mortar, which means less carrying, less waste and considerably less back pain at the end of the day.
The foam expands on application to fill minor surface irregularities, creating a strong bond as it cures. Working time is generous enough to allow repositioning, but the rapid cure means boards stay put without temporary fixings or propping. For dry-liners and plasterers working to tight programmes, this translates directly into faster room turnaround and fewer return visits.
Why tradespeople choose foam over mortar
Traditional dot and dab has its place, but it comes with baggage literally. Mixing adhesive on site creates dust, requires water access and leaves you with buckets to clean. Foam adhesive sidesteps all of that. You attach the canister to your gun, apply beads to the board or wall, and press into position. The site stays cleaner, your van stays lighter, and your knees thank you for not lugging 20kg bags up three flights of stairs.
Consistent coverage without waste
Unlike mixed adhesive that starts setting the moment you add water, foam in the canister remains stable until dispensed. No rushing to use a batch before it goes off, no scraping hardened mortar from buckets. You use what you need, then cap the gun and save the rest for tomorrow. For smaller jobs or rooms done in stages, this flexibility makes genuine economic sense.
Soudal Plasterboard Adhesive Foam works on common substrates including brick, block, concrete and aerated concrete. The finished bond has excellent shear strength and handles the thermal movement typical in UK buildings. It is suitable for internal dry-lining applications where you need reliable adhesion without the weight and mess of wet trades.
Pro Tip: Run a continuous bead around the board perimeter and add vertical strips at 300mm centres for the strongest bond with minimal foam use.
Designed for internal dry-lining work where plasterboard is bonded directly to masonry walls. Commonly used in residential refurbishments, new-build fit-outs and commercial interiors. Ideal for solid wall insulation projects where boards are applied over existing masonry. Suitable for bonding standard plasterboard, thermal laminate boards and moisture-resistant boards to brick, block, concrete and aerated concrete substrates.
Best For
Dot and dab plasterboard installation
Solid wall insulation boarding
Renovation dry-lining
Commercial fit-out projects
Single-person boarding work
Compatible Materials
Standard plasterboard
Thermal laminate boards
Moisture-resistant plasterboard
Brick and blockwork
Concrete and aerated concrete
Key Features
Covers up to 12m² per 750ml canister
Equivalent yield to 20kg mortar bag
Self-expanding polyurethane formula
Rapid cure without propping
No mixing or water required
Not suitable for: Not recommended for external applications or areas subject to prolonged moisture exposure. Avoid use on substrates with active damp issues or surfaces contaminated with oil, grease or loose material.
Apply using a standard polyurethane foam gun for controlled bead placement. Surfaces should be clean, dry and free from dust or loose material. Slightly dampen porous substrates to improve adhesion and cure speed. Position boards within the open time and apply firm pressure across the surface to ensure full contact with adhesive beads.
Ensure wall surface is clean, dry and free from dust or debris
Lightly dampen very porous substrates with water
Shake canister thoroughly and attach to foam gun
Apply continuous bead around board perimeter
Add vertical beads at 300mm centres across the board
Press board firmly into position and check level
Allow foam to cure fully before applying finishing loads
How much area does one canister cover?
A 750ml gun-grade canister covers approximately 12m² of plasterboard, which is roughly equivalent to the coverage from a 20kg bag of traditional plasterboard adhesive mortar.
Do I need to prop the boards while the foam cures?
In most cases no. The foam grabs quickly and holds boards in position during curing. On uneven walls or with heavier thermal laminate boards, temporary support for the first few minutes can help ensure a flat finish.
Can I use this with a straw applicator instead of a gun?
This is a gun-grade product designed for use with a standard polyurethane foam applicator gun. The gun provides the controlled bead placement needed for reliable coverage and economical use. Straw-applied foam versions are available separately.
Single-component polyurethane foam adhesive that cures through moisture reaction with atmospheric humidity. The self-expanding formula compensates for minor surface irregularities while developing high shear strength on porous masonry substrates. Remains flexible after curing to accommodate normal building movement without bond failure.
