Clean the outside of the copper pipe and the inside of the fitting socket thoroughly with wire wool or emery cloth until bright. Apply flux to both surfaces before assembling. Heat the fitting evenly with a blowtorch until the flux bubbles and the metal is up to temperature, then feed solder in at the edge of the socket — it should draw in cleanly around the full circumference. Allow to cool before handling.
On the threaded side, wrap the 1" BSP male thread with PTFE tape before connecting to the cylinder boss. Tighten the union nut hand tight and then a further half to three-quarter turn with a spanner — over-tightening the union nut won't improve the seal and risks distorting the seating.
