Celcon, Thermolite and similar autoclaved aerated concrete blocks are everywhere on modern builds. They are light, easy to handle, and go up quickly. The problem is that the moment you try to put a conventional expansion plug into one, the material crumbles around it and you end up with a fixing that wobbles on the wall like a loose tooth. These LB anchors solve that problem directly.
Modern aircrete blocks are marketed under dozens of brand names, but they all share the same challenge: the material is light and porous, which makes life easier for the bricklayers and a headache for anyone fixing into it afterwards. A normal plug expands outward and splits the face of the block. A metal expansion anchor can do the same, or worse. The hi-load soft block anchor works differently. Drill a clean hole to the correct depth for the anchor length you are using. Keep the drill speed moderate, particularly in aircrete, to avoid breaking out the face of the block. Insert the anchor so it sits flush or just below the surface.
Drive the screw in steadily. The anchor will expand and grip the surrounding material without splitting it. If the hole feels loose before you start, the block may be particularly soft and you may want to use a longer anchor or consider a resin anchor system for heavier loads.
Select the correct anchor length for the fixing depth required: 55mm for standard applications, 70mm for deeper embedment or thicker materials.
Fit a 10mm masonry drill bit and drill to the full depth of the anchor at a controlled, moderate speed.
Clear dust and debris from the hole before inserting the anchor.
Push the anchor fully into the hole until it is flush with or just below the surface.
Insert the screw and drive it in steadily to expand the anchor within the block.
Check the fixing is secure before applying load.
