The Mexco DCXCEL 8 piece diamond core set covers the big diameters — 107mm and 152mm — that electricians, plumbers and builders reach for most. Laser welded castellated segments, four adaptors, pilot drill and drift key included. Everything in one carry case.
The Mexco 8 piece DCXCEL diamond core set is built around the two diameters that come up again and again on site: 107mm and 152mm. Whether you are dropping cables through a blockwork wall, breaking out for a soil pipe, or cutting back-box openings through a brick course, this mexco 8 piece dcxcel diamond core set gives you the right tool without rummaging through half a dozen separate orders. The laser welded castellated segments are the key detail here — the rooftop profile and high diamond grit concentration cut faster and stay on line better than a standard pressed segment core.
Mexco have been making diamond tooling long enough to know what tradespeople actually need in a kit. The DCXCEL range sits in the professional tier: not entry-level, not priced for a one-off job, but built for the kind of daily use that a plumber or electrician puts through their gear. The castellated rooftop segment design breaks the masonry plug into smaller pieces as it cuts, which reduces the torque load and makes for a cleaner bore. Less snatching, less effort, and the core tends to drop out cleanly rather than jamming solid in the barrel.
What the Mexco DCXCEL Core Set Includes
The eight pieces cover the full workflow, not just the cutting heads. You get both core drills, four adaptors spanning 80mm and 250mm lengths in both SDS and hex drive formats, a 10mm by 175mm A-taper pilot drill to keep you centred at the start of a cut, and a drift key for popping the slug out of the barrel. The case keeps everything together, which sounds obvious until you have spent ten minutes on a scaffold looking for an adaptor that rolled under a board. Each item in the kit can also be purchased individually from Mexco for restocking — no need to replace the whole set when one piece wears out.
Drill Motor Requirements
These core drills need a minimum 850W drill motor fitted with a slipping clutch. This is not a negotiable point. Running a laser welded dry core without a slipping clutch risks a serious snatch if the core jams, and the torque loads at 107mm and above are not trivial. A decent rotary hammer set to rotary-only mode with the appropriate adaptor is the standard approach on most jobs.
Dry core drilling keeps the job clean — no water, no slurry, no soaked floors. For masonry work indoors, that matters.
Pro Tip: Always start a new core drill with a light touch for the first few seconds to let the segment bed in — forcing full pressure immediately on a fresh barrel can glaze the diamond grit before it has a chance to open up, and you will wonder why your brand new core is cutting like a used one.
