Nylon Stripping & Preparation Disc – Timco

Hardened nylon fibre stripping disc for serious surface prep work. Removes old paint, rust, weld spatter and thermal bluing without gouging the workpiece. Temperature-resistant resin coating and heavy duty backing plate for rapid, controlled abrasive action.
The Timco nylon stripping disc is a hardened nylon fibre abrasive disc built for heavy surface preparation work. At 115mm with a 22.23mm bore, it fits standard angle grinders and gets stuck into jobs that wire wheels and flap discs tend to make a mess of. Whether you’re pulling off old paint, attacking rust and corrosion, or clearing weld spatter before a second pass, this disc cuts fast without biting into the metal beneath.
The nylon fibre construction is the key thing here. Unlike grinding or flap discs, the fibres flex slightly across the surface rather than cutting into it. That matters when you want aggressive stock removal without leaving deep scratches or distorting thinner material. The extreme temperature-resistant resin coating means the disc holds together under heat build-up, which is useful when you’re working hard and not stopping every thirty seconds to let things cool down.
Heavy duty backing plate keeps the disc stable at speed. Reduced loading is another practical benefit: the open structure of the nylon means swarf, paint residue and debris don’t clog the abrasive face the way they do on a standard sanding disc. You get more working life out of each disc, which on a bigger job adds up.
Where the Timco Nylon Stripping Disc Earns Its Keep
Thermal bluing removal is one application worth calling out specifically. When steel is cut or welded, the heat-affected zone develops a characteristic blue oxide discolouration. It looks fine if you’re not fussed, but it causes adhesion problems under primer and paint. The nylon stripping disc clears it cleanly and consistently, something a lot of other abrasive types handle less predictably.
It’s equally at home on flat surfaces where you need even prep across a panel or plate, and on mildly contoured work where the disc’s slight flexibility helps it follow the surface. Not a disc for aggressive profiling or deep stock removal on hard steel, but for preparation work where finish quality matters before the next stage, it does the job properly.
Available in Four Grits
The 115mm disc comes in 40, 60, 80 and 120 grit. Start with 40 for heavy rust, thick paint or serious weld spatter, step up through 60 or 80 for general prep, and finish with 120 where a cleaner surface is needed before priming or coating. Sold in boxes of 10, which makes sense for anyone running through prep work regularly rather than buying singles and running short at the wrong moment.
Pro Tip: When using the 40 grit for heavy rust or thick paint removal, keep the disc moving steadily across the surface rather than dwelling in one spot, dwelling generates heat and can cause the nylon fibres to glaze over, reducing cutting efficiency.
