The BZP high tensile set screw bolt is one of those fixings that ends up in every trade bag, site box, and workshop shelf for good reason. Fully threaded, hexagon head, grade 8.8 steel to DIN 933 — these are proper fasteners, not the kind that round off under a ratchet or shear when you actually load them. The bright zinc plated finish gives a decent level of corrosion resistance, making them suitable for both internal and external applications where you need a reliable, durable fixing without going to stainless.

Grade 8.8 is the standard specification for general structural and mechanical fastening across construction, engineering, and fabrication. It means the steel has been processed to a tensile strength of 800 MPa with an 80% yield ratio — enough for most demanding on-site applications short of structural steelwork connections, which typically call for grade 10.9 or higher. For steel-to-steel fixing, machine assembly, plant installation, framework connections, and a hundred other everyday trade jobs, 8.8 is exactly what you need.

Where BZP High Tensile Set Screw Bolts Get Used

These are a workhorse fixing across a lot of trades. Steelwork erectors use them on secondary connections and bracketry. Mechanical engineers reach for M12 and M16 for plant and equipment mounting. M6 and M8 sizes are common in fabrication shops and for securing guards, covers, and access panels. Farmers and agricultural engineers tend to get through M10 and M12 at a rate that would alarm most people.

Being fully threaded rather than part-shanked, they give full thread engagement across the entire bolt length. That matters when you are fixing through thinner materials or where you want clamping force right up to the head. Pair with a standard hex nut and washer and you are done.

The range here covers M5 through to M20 across a solid spread of lengths, sold in trade box quantities. Buying in bulk makes sense when these are a regular requirement on site or in the workshop — the per-unit cost drops considerably compared to picking them off a shelf one at a time, and you are not stopping a job to run to a merchant for a bag of ten.

Pro Tip: Always run a nut down the thread by hand before driving — if it binds or feels rough, the thread is damaged and the bolt will not achieve its rated clamping force.
