Fire Rated Expanding Foam – B1 Premium 4hr Fire Rated – Gun Grade
£4.95£5.94 EX VATINC VAT
One-component, self-expanding polyurethane foam with a 4-hour fire rating tested to EN1366-4. Gun grade formula, ready to use straight from the can. Seals against fire, smoke and gas with excellent adhesion on most substrates.
B1 fire rated expanding foam gun grade is the product you reach for when the job demands more than just a good seal. This is a one-component, self-expanding polyurethane foam rated for up to 240 minutes of fire resistance, tested to EN1366-4. That is a serious credential for any fire stop application, and it makes this foam a reliable choice wherever building regulations or fire safety specifications require a certified barrier.
The foam expands to fill cavities completely, bonding tightly to most common substrates including masonry, timber, metal and glass. Teflon, polyethylene and polypropylene are the exceptions, but on everything else the adhesion is strong and consistent. Once cured, there is no shrinkage and no post-expansion, which matters a lot when you are sealing around pipe penetrations or partition wall junctions and need the fill to stay exactly where you put it.
Beyond fire resistance, this foam delivers solid thermal and acoustic insulation properties. Sealing cable entries through a floor slab or running pipework through a fire compartment wall becomes a single-step process. The foam handles the structural fill, the smoke seal, the thermal break and the acoustic deadening all at once.
Where B1 Fire Rated Expanding Foam Gets Used
The propellant system used here is free from ozone-depleting substances, which is worth knowing if environmental compliance is part of your project documentation. After full cure the foam can be painted over or topped with a compatible sealant, keeping the finish tidy and protecting the foam from UV degradation.
It is fitted with a Click and Fix adapter system, so it threads directly onto a standard foam gun without fuss. The gun grade formula gives you far more control than a straw-type can, especially when working in awkward voids or on vertical surfaces where precision matters. For any installation where fire retardant sealing is specified, this foam covers the requirement properly.
Pro Tip: Always moisten the substrate and the cavity walls with a water mist before applying PU foam, cured polyurethane needs moisture to cure from the outside in, and a dry surface will slow the process noticeably, especially in cold conditions.
This foam is used wherever fire-rated sealing is specified on a construction project. Common applications include sealing around window and door frames in fire-rated partitions, closing penetrations where cables, conduit or pipework pass through walls, floors or ceilings, and filling voids in roof constructions where fire separation is required. It is regularly specified by electricians, plumbers, fire stopping contractors and general builders working on commercial fit-outs, residential developments and refurbishment projects subject to fire safety regulations.
Beyond the fire stop context, it works well for acoustic partitioning, thermal insulation at cold store installations and bonding insulation boards where a lightweight adhesive fill is practical.
Best For
- Fire stopping at wall, floor and ceiling penetrations
- Sealing around window and door frames in fire-rated partitions
- Cable and pipe penetration sealing
- Acoustic and thermal void filling
- Bonding insulation materials in fire-rated assemblies
Compatible Surfaces
- Masonry and concrete
- Timber and engineered wood
- Metal framing and steel sections
- Glass
- Most common building substrates
- Not suitable for Teflon, polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP)
Key Properties
- 4-hour fire rating (240 minutes) tested to EN1366-4
- B1 fire retardant classification
- Efficient smoke and gas seal
- No shrinkage or post-expansion after cure
- High thermal and acoustic insulation performance
- Ozone-safe propellant
- Paintable after full cure
- Click and Fix gun adapter system
Not suitable for: Not suitable for use on Teflon, polyethylene or polypropylene surfaces, as adhesion will not form on these materials. Not a substitute for intumescent collars or mechanical fire stopping systems where those are specifically required by specification.
Shake the can for at least 20 seconds before use and repeat shaking regularly throughout application. Attach the can to a foam gun using the Click and Fix adapter. Lightly mist the substrate and cavity walls with clean water before dispensing, as moisture is essential for the curing process.
Fill cavities to no more than 65% of their volume. The foam will expand to fill the remainder. If working in layers, re-moisten between each layer. Working temperature range is 5 degrees C to 40 degrees C, with best results between 20 and 25 degrees C. Once cured, protect exposed foam from UV exposure by painting over it or applying a compatible sealant such as silicone, MS polymer, acrylic or PU sealant.
- Shake the can vigorously for at least 20 seconds before starting
- Attach the can to a foam gun using the Click and Fix adapter
- Mist the substrate and cavity surfaces lightly with clean water
- Dispense foam to fill the cavity to approximately 65% of its volume
- Shake the can again every few minutes during application
- If applying in layers, re-moisten each layer before adding the next
- Leave to cure fully before trimming or finishing
- Paint over or seal all exposed foam surfaces to protect against UV degradation
What fire rating does this foam carry and how is it tested?
This foam is rated for up to 240 minutes, which is 4 hours of fire resistance. It has been tested to EN1366-4, which is the European standard for linear joint sealing systems in fire resistance testing. The B1 classification refers to its fire retardant performance under German and European building material standards.
Can I use this foam to seal pipe and cable penetrations through fire-rated floors and walls?
Yes, this is one of the primary applications. It seals openings in fire-rated partitions, floors and ceilings where cables, pipes or conduit pass through. It also acts as a smoke and gas barrier at these penetrations. Always check your project specification, as some installations may additionally require intumescent sleeves or collars around plastic pipes.
Can the cured foam be painted, and does it need any surface protection?
Yes, the foam can be painted once fully cured. Any exposed foam that will be left in view or subject to daylight must be protected from UV radiation, as PU foam will degrade if left uncoated. Paint, silicone sealant, MS polymer, acrylic or PU sealant are all suitable for this purpose.
This product is a one-component moisture-curing polyurethane foam supplied in a pressurised aerosol can with a gun-grade adapter. The foam achieves a B1 fire retardant classification and has been independently tested to EN1366-4, achieving a 240-minute fire resistance rating. The propellant system contains no ozone-depleting substances. Working temperature range is 5 degrees C to 40 degrees C, with optimal cure conditions between 20 and 25 degrees C.
