Truss clips 47mm wide are one of those small items that end up doing a lot of work on a roof build. They sit quietly at the junction between truss and wall plate, transferring loads and keeping the whole roof structure tied down properly. Simple in design, but structural in purpose — these are not optional extras.

Each clip is punched from galvanised steel with pre-formed nail holes, making them fast to fix on site. You just position the clip over the crossing members and nail off through the holes. There is no cutting, bending or fabricating involved, which is exactly what you want when you are halfway up a scaffold in February.

Where Truss Clips 47mm Are Used on Roof Structures

The primary application is fixing prefabricated roof trusses to the timber wall plate, a connection required by building regulations in domestic construction. The clip wraps around the truss heel and bites into the wall plate below, providing both restraint and uplift resistance. They are also commonly used to connect girder trusses, rafters, and purlins wherever a simple crossing-member connection is needed without the bulk of a joist hanger.

Multi-Purpose Connector Use

Beyond roof trusses, these clips get pressed into service as general structural connectors wherever two timber members cross and need tying together. Floor structures, stud work bracing, outbuilding frames — if two bits of wood cross and you need them to stay that way, a truss clip is often the quickest solution on site.

At 110mm in length, these clips have enough bearing surface to provide a solid connection without pulling through the timber under load. Sold in a box of 25, they suit a typical domestic roof or form a solid working stock for general timber frame work.

Pro Tip: Always nail every hole in the clip, not just a couple to hold it in place — partial fixing significantly reduces the load capacity and will not satisfy building regs.
