Stainless steel 6mm helical spiral bars for crack stitching masonry walls and brickwork. Installed with resin or cementitious grout to restore tensile strength across cracks. Can be cut or bent on site. Pack of 25 x 1m bars.

Helical spiral bar 6mm is the standard choice for crack stitching repairs in masonry walls and brickwork. Each bar is formed from stainless steel in a continuous helical profile, which locks into grout along its full length and transfers tensile and flexural forces across a cracked section. The result is a structurally reconnected wall with load redistributed evenly along the bar rather than concentrated at the crack face.

This pack contains 25 bars, each 1 metre long, giving you 25 linear metres of reinforcement to work with on site. At 6mm diameter, these bars slot cleanly into standard chase widths and bed joints without requiring oversized slots that would weaken the surrounding masonry. They are suitable for use with both resin grout and cementitious grout, so you can match the fixing method to the substrate and the structural engineer’s specification.

Where Helical Spiral Bars Are Used in Masonry Repair

The most common application is crack stitching across diagonal or stepped cracks in brickwork and blockwork, but the bars are equally well suited to bed joint reinforcement, anti-crack reinforcement around door and window openings, and added tensile strength in footings, parapets, and retaining walls. They are also suitable for reinforcing thin precast concrete sections such as precast panels and precast door and window details where conventional rebar would be impractical.

For remedial work, the bars are typically installed at vertical intervals of 4 to 6 brick courses, which is roughly 300mm to 450mm depending on brick size. This spacing should always be confirmed with the structural engineer on the project. Where a crack falls within 500mm of a corner or reveal, the bar should be bent and bonded at least 100mm around the corner to maintain continuity of reinforcement.

Lapping and Continuity

Where two cracks are close together, bars can be lapped rather than treating each crack independently. Laps should be a minimum of 500mm, with the bar extending at least 500mm beyond the outer cracks. This keeps the reinforcement continuous without the need for mechanical connectors or additional fixings.

The helical spiral profile is what makes these bars practical on site. They can be cut to any length using standard angle grinder or cutting disc, and the stainless steel construction means they will bend to follow corners and irregular geometries without cracking or losing strength. There is no coating to damage when cutting, and no risk of delamination at bends.

The stainless steel construction provides permanent corrosion resistance, which matters in masonry repair work where the bars are embedded in damp or variable conditions. Unlike epoxy-coated rebar, there is no surface finish to chip or abrade during installation. These bars are a long-term solution, not a patch job.

One important point worth repeating: the cause of any cracking must be identified and resolved by a structural engineer before installation. Stitching a crack before the root cause is addressed will not prevent further movement, and the repair will not hold.

Pro Tip: When chasing out slots for crack stitching, flush the slot with water before injecting grout to stop the masonry drawing moisture out of the mix before it has cured, which can leave voids around the bar.
