Double triangle wall ties are a staple of cavity wall construction in domestic and small commercial buildings across the UK. These stainless steel ties follow the traditional double triangle design previously specified under BS1243, and they remain a reliable, straightforward choice for bricklayers who need a tie that performs consistently without complication. Available in sizes from 250mm to 450mm, they suit a wide range of standard cavity widths.

Each tie is manufactured from grade 304 stainless steel, which gives excellent corrosion resistance and a service life of not less than 60 years. That is the kind of longevity that removes wall ties from any maintenance conversation once the mortar has set. The ties are also classified as non-combustible under the national Building Regulations, so they meet fire performance requirements for standard residential and light commercial projects without any additional consideration.

Where Double Triangle Wall Ties Fit In

These ties are designed for buildings with a maximum height of 15m, on flat sites where the basic wind speed does not exceed 31m/s and the altitude is no greater than 150m above sea level. That covers the vast majority of domestic new-build and renovation work, as well as small commercial projects. If your site falls outside those parameters, you will need to specify a tie rated for more demanding conditions.

The double triangle profile includes a multidrip feature, which prevents moisture from travelling across the cavity and reaching the inner leaf. This is a fundamental requirement of cavity wall construction, and the geometry of this tie handles it without any special orientation needed during installation. The tie can be installed either way up, which removes one more thing to think about when you are three courses up and working at pace.

Compliance and Strength Ratings

Ties up to and including 300mm are tested as Type B (sound) and as Type 2 and 3 for strength to BS EN 845-1, which classifies them as Type 2 ties under current standards. This means they are suitable for use in standard cavity wall construction where Type 2 performance is specified. It is worth noting that sizes above 300mm have not been independently tested to BS EN 845-1, so if you are working on a project that requires full compliance documentation for wider cavities, check with your structural engineer or building control before specifying those sizes.

The ties are available in boxes of 10 or 250. The box of 10 is useful if you are topping up stock or working on a small patch repair. The box of 250 is the sensible choice for a new-build plot or a larger extension where you will be tying consistently across multiple courses and lifts. At the prices these come in, buying in volume makes straightforward sense.
