The Unifix Vortex Premium Pro wood screws are a technically advanced range built for tradespeople who want a screw that actually works without drama. Whether you’re fixing timber frames, fitting sheet material, or working through hardwood, these unifix vortex wood screws are designed to cut cleanly and drive without splitting or stalling.
The oblique angle razor-sharp gash point tip bites straight into the wood without pre-drilling in most situations. That alone saves a considerable amount of time on site, especially when you’re running through a box at pace. The deep, sharp single thread cuts through the wood fibres cleanly rather than tearing through them, which reduces the risk of splitting and gives a consistently tight pull-down.
What Makes the Vortex Pro Stand Out
The Sawfix serrated teeth sit just above the thread and do a proper job of clearing waste material as the screw advances. This is particularly noticeable in denser timbers where lesser screws start to bog down. Combined with the sharp underhead milling nibs, which recess the head flush without needing a countersink bit in softer materials, you get a clean finish with minimal effort.
Corrosion resistance comes from a zinc and yellow passivated coating, giving double protection against rust. This makes them suitable for interior use and most covered or semi-exposed applications, though they are not rated for fully external or ground-contact situations.
If you’ve used Reisser R2 Cutters, Spax, or Turbo Gold Ultra screws before, these sit comfortably in the same category and come in at a better price point. Available in sizes from 3.5x12mm through to 6.0x150mm, and packed in boxes of 100 or 200, these are a solid everyday woodscrew for any trade kit.
Pro Tip: In dense hardwoods above 4.0mm diameter, a quick pilot hole with a bit slightly smaller than the screw shank will stop the timber cracking near edges and give a cleaner pull-down on the head.
