Bungee cords are one of those things that end up used for everything once you have a decent set on the van. Securing tarpaulins, holding down loads on a trailer, keeping equipment covered on site — they handle it quickly and without fuss. These are tested to BS AU 258:1995, which is the British Standard for bungee cords used in load securing. That matters, because not everything sold as a bungee cord is worth trusting on a moving vehicle.

The mixed-length packs are the practical bit. Rather than buying a single size and finding it’s either too short or looping around twice awkwardly, you get a range that covers most situations. The 6-pack includes 20cm, 60cm and 80cm cords — useful when you need something compact for smaller items alongside the longer reach for a tarpaulin edge. The 20-pack steps it up with five sizes: 25cm, 45cm, 50cm, 60cm and 75cm, giving you genuine flexibility without needing to think too hard about which one to reach for.

Where These Bungee Cords Get Used on Site

On a day-to-day basis, these get used most often for securing sheet materials under a tarp, keeping toolboxes closed during transport, and tying back loose materials on scaffolding or plant. Groundworkers, roofers and general builders all tend to keep a set in the van. They’re not a permanent fixing solution — nobody’s pretending otherwise — but for quick, repeated securing tasks where you’re loading and unloading throughout the day, they save time compared to straps that need ratcheting down.

Buying in packs rather than individually keeps costs down and means you’re not hunting for a spare at the wrong moment. At this price point, keeping a set in the van and a set on site is not hard to justify.

Pro Tip: Always hook bungee cords back on themselves rather than stretching them beyond their natural length — overstretching weakens the elastic core over time and increases the chance of the hook slipping under tension.
