When you’re laying a damp proof membrane and you can’t avoid a joint, the last thing you want is a weak point that lets moisture through six months down the line. This double sided DPM jointing tape is a butyl-based tape designed to bond two sheets of membrane securely together, creating a continuous damp proof seal that holds up in the conditions it needs to. At 10m long and 50mm wide, one roll handles a decent run of jointing work without you constantly breaking off to grab another roll.

The backing paper keeps the adhesive clean and protected right up until the moment you’re ready to apply, which makes positioning the tape straightforward rather than a fight with something that wants to stick to everything including your gloves. High adhesion butyl means it bonds firmly to the membrane surface without needing heat or primers in normal conditions.

Using Double Sided DPM Jointing Tape on Site

This tape is designed to work as part of a two-tape system. The double sided DPM jointing tape goes between the two membrane sheets at the overlap, and then a TIMco High Strength PVC Builders Tape runs over the top of the joint on the surface. That combination gives you both a bonded seal between the sheets and a surface covering that ties everything together and protects the joint from disturbance during the rest of the build. Either tape on its own does part of the job; both together do it properly.

Why Butyl Works Here

Butyl rubber has been used in sealing applications for a long time because it stays flexible and maintains its bond in damp and cold conditions, which matters when you’re working at ground level or in sub-floor environments where temperatures drop and moisture is the whole reason you’re there. It doesn’t go brittle over time the way some acrylic tapes can, which means the seal is still doing its job years after the floor screed has gone down.

If you’re working on a larger project where DPM jointing runs are extensive, buying a few rolls at once makes sense. The 10m length gives reasonable coverage per roll, and having spares on hand avoids the kind of delay that makes no one happy.

Pro Tip: Always overlap the membrane sheets by at least 150mm before applying the tape, and make sure both surfaces are dry and free of dust or loose material before you press the tape down, because butyl will bond to whatever is on the surface, not just what you want it to.
