Lipped drop in anchors are about as straightforward as concrete fixings get, and that is exactly why they are relied upon across so many trades. You drill your hole, knock the anchor flush using a setting tool, and you have a solid internally threaded socket ready to accept a machine screw or rod. The lip is not a detail you will ignore for long on site — it sits against the surface of the concrete and physically stops the anchor being driven too deep. No guessing, no dial gauges, no measuring. The anchor stops where it should and you move on.
These are hammer-set anchors, which means installation needs nothing more exotic than a drill, the right size bit, and a setting tool. The expansion mechanism works as the setting tool is driven down through the anchor body, forcing the lower section to expand outward and grip the concrete. Done properly, you end up with a fixing that is not going anywhere. They are sometimes referred to as wedge anchors or internally threaded drop-in anchors, though technically the wedge anchor is a different fixing — close enough that the names get mixed up regularly.
Where Lipped Drop In Anchors Are Used
These anchors are designed exclusively for solid concrete and are a go-to fixing for structural support brackets, threaded rod installations, mechanical equipment bases, and any application where a flush, clean, load-bearing socket is needed in the substrate. Available in M6, M8, M10 and M12 thread sizes, they cover a wide range of load requirements. The smaller M6 and M8 sizes suit lighter support work and cable management brackets, while M10 and M12 carry the heavier loads you get with structural or mechanical applications.
Sold in boxes of 50 or 100, or in cases of 1000 for larger projects or contractors who want to avoid running short halfway through a job. Because there is nothing worse than stopping a fixing run to place another order.
Pro Tip: Always use the correct setting tool for the anchor diameter and drive it until you feel the resistance change — that shift in feel tells you the expansion has completed and the anchor is fully set.
