T118G HSS jigsaw blades designed for cutting thin sheet metal. High Speed Steel construction handles heat well, and the milled wavy set teeth deliver a fine, straight cut through mild steel and similar metals. Supplied in packs of 5.
The T118G HSS metal jigsaw blades are a standard fit for anyone cutting thin sheet metals on site or in a workshop. High Speed Steel holds its hardness at elevated temperatures, which matters a great deal when you’re pushing through mild steel, sheet aluminium, or similar materials that generate real heat at the cut. These are 76mm blades with a T-shank fitting, which covers the vast majority of modern jigsaws from the main brands.
The teeth on these blades are milled and wavy set — often abbreviated to MWS. Milled teeth are ground to a more precise profile than punched alternatives, giving you a cleaner edge on the cut. The wavy set means adjacent teeth are angled in alternating directions, which reduces blade deflection and keeps the cut tracking straight. On thin sheet metal especially, this makes a noticeable difference to the finish.
Where T118G HSS Metal Jigsaw Blades Work Best
These blades are genuinely well suited to thin sheet work. Box section, sheet steel, mild steel plate up to a few millimetres thick, light gauge aluminium — all well within range. They are also used for cutting conduit and steel pipe where a jigsaw is the practical tool for the job. If you’re doing first-fix electrical or plumbing work and need to cut steel back boxes or chase through sheet metalwork, a pack of these lives in the tool bag for a reason.
A Note on Material Thickness
HSS blades for metal cutting are not designed for heavy stock. Thick steel plate will blunt them quickly and is better handled by an angle grinder or cold saw. Stick to thin section and sheet work and these blades will give you a decent run of cuts before needing replacement. For the price, buying in a five-pack means you always have a fresh blade ready when one starts to drag.
Supplied as a pack of 5, T-shank fitting, 76mm blade length.
Pro Tip: When cutting thin sheet metal with a jigsaw, apply a little cutting oil or even a smear of WD-40 along the cut line — it reduces heat at the blade tip and noticeably extends the working life of HSS blades.
These blades are used for cutting thin sheet metals including mild steel, sheet aluminium, and light gauge steel sections. Common applications include cutting steel back boxes, conduit, sheet metalwork, steel lintel trims, and thin-wall box section. They are regularly used by electricians, plumbers, and general builders who need a fast metal cut without reaching for an angle grinder. On bench-top work, they handle repetitive sheet cutting cleanly and consistently.

Key Specifications

SKU: T118G
Not suitable for: Not suitable for thick steel plate or heavy section metalwork. HSS blades are designed for thin sheet and light section work — cutting heavy stock will blunt them rapidly and risks blade breakage.
Fit the blade into the T-shank slot on your jigsaw until it clicks securely into place. Set the jigsaw to a medium speed for thin sheet metal — running too fast generates excess heat and shortens blade life. Allow the blade to reach full speed before making contact with the material.
Support the workpiece firmly to minimise vibration, which is the main cause of ragged edges on sheet metal. Keep the baseplate flat against the material throughout the cut. If the blade starts to drag or wander, it is likely blunted and should be replaced. A fresh blade from the pack will restore clean cutting immediately.
Secure the workpiece firmly to prevent movement and vibration during the cut
Insert the T118G blade into the jigsaw's T-shank fitting until it locks positively in place
Apply a light smear of cutting oil or lubricant along the cut line to reduce heat build-up
Set the jigsaw speed to medium — high speed increases heat and reduces blade life on metal
Bring the jigsaw to full speed before the blade contacts the material
Keep the baseplate flat against the sheet surface throughout the cut
Follow the cut line steadily without forcing the blade — let the teeth do the work
Replace the blade if cutting slows, the blade deflects, or the cut edge deteriorates
What does T-shank mean and will these blades fit my jigsaw?
T-shank is the most common jigsaw blade fitting used by virtually all current jigsaw manufacturers including Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, and Milwaukee. If your jigsaw was made in the last 15 to 20 years, it almost certainly takes T-shank blades. The older U-shank fitting is largely obsolete now.
What thickness of metal can T118G blades cut?
These blades are designed for thin sheet metal work. As a practical guide, up to around 3 to 4mm mild steel is achievable, with thinner gauges giving the cleanest results and longest blade life. Beyond that, you are better served by an angle grinder or cold saw.
Why are HSS blades better for metal cutting than standard jigsaw blades?
High Speed Steel retains its hardness at the elevated temperatures generated when cutting metal. Standard carbon steel blades soften and blunt rapidly under the same conditions. For anything more than occasional metal cuts, HSS is the sensible choice.
T118G blades are manufactured from High Speed Steel, a material that maintains its hardness and edge integrity at temperatures where carbon steel would lose its temper. The teeth are milled rather than punched, producing a more consistent tooth profile and a finer cut finish. The wavy set tooth geometry reduces side loading on the blade body, which helps maintain straight tracking through sheet material and reduces the risk of blade wander.
