A2 stainless steel nail plate for connecting and repairing structural timber. Countersunk holes guide nails cleanly for a flush finish. Strengthening ribs add rigidity. Suitable for green oak and other corrosive environments where standard galvanised plates won’t last.

These 85x178mm stainless steel nail plates are a simple, reliable way to join or repair timber where you need the fix to last. The perforated plate spans the joint, you nail through, and the countersunk holes do the work of guiding the nail square and sitting flush with the plate surface. No fuss, no protruding fixings catching on things.

Manufactured from A2 stainless steel, these plates are the right choice wherever a standard galvanised fixing would struggle. Green oak is the classic culprit — the tannins in freshly cut oak are genuinely corrosive to zinc coatings, and you’ll see galvanised plates fail in a matter of years. Stainless sidesteps that problem entirely. The same goes for exposed outdoor structures, agricultural buildings, coastal locations, or anywhere that sees persistent moisture.

Where Stainless Steel Nail Plates Earn Their Place

On site, these plates turn up in all sorts of situations. Structural timber repairs, truss connections, fence and gate framing, outbuilding construction, pergolas, oak frames — anywhere a mechanical timber connection needs to hold for the long term without corroding through. The 85 x 178mm size is a practical general-purpose format that covers a decent span across a joint without being unwieldy.

The strengthening ribs pressed into the plate add meaningful rigidity. A flat plate of this size would flex under load; the ribs prevent that and keep the plate tight to the timber face once it’s nailed down. It’s a small detail that makes a real difference to how the finished joint behaves.

Worth noting: these are sold individually, which makes it straightforward to order exactly what you need for a specific job rather than being stuck with a box of fifty when you only needed twelve. Bulk pricing is available if you do need larger quantities, and next day delivery means you’re not holding up the job waiting for fixings.

Pro Tip: When fixing into green oak, use A2 or A4 stainless nails through these plates, not bright steel or galvanised, as the tannins will corrode standard nails at the fixing point and compromise the joint over time.
